Dynamics

Commissioned by a mechanical engineering firm for their new headquarters, I conceived of this sculpture as an evolving abstraction of fluid dynamics. At thirty-five feet in stature, the structure flows into the clerestory, drawing the eye up through the atrium stairs.

My contemporary aesthetic is informed by my practice in Architecture/Design, and my mind for Engineering, Mathematics, and Systems Sciences.

This confluence is evident in "Dynamics," the sculpture exploring thermodynamics and wave theory. The use of fine maple in such organic shapes locates the concept in simple comforts: the warmth of elemental coalescence in our one, wonderful world.

The mammoth size of this sculpture is an invitation to the viewer to suspend disbelief for a moment (How in the world... is this thing attached?), and contemplate, rather, its reason for being. "This was made for us, by a person who thought deeply about us, our theories, and our own deepest beliefs." The visual conversation between viewer and art is itself a complex system.
