Interactive Loom

NCMA loom sculpture

The Loom is an interactive educational sculpture installed in the Threads of Experience exhibition within the newly-expanded African Art Gallery at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The loom design is inspired by the 5 x 5 modulated concrete ceiling in the museum’s original Edward Durrell Building. Utilizing a simple geometric twisting, a static linear element becomes a captivating object in space. The chords are meant to be touched by visitors, who become active weavers of the sculpture.
